“The vibe is right!” – Stonebwoy and Haile Roots on Coke Studio Africa 4

On the fourth season of Coke Studio Africa, themed Discover – Ghana’s music gem Stonebwoy makes his debut on the show, paired with Ethiopian artiste Haile Roots, and produced by Kenya’s Madtraxx.

Haile says: “My experience on the show was great and very professional. I know West African music but I have discovered that Stonebwoy has something special that other artistes don’t have. He’s like Vybz Kartel and you don’t expect to get that from West Africa.”

While recording the show, the two artistes were both impressed by their original song: Love and Harmony, pointing it out as their favourite.

Stonebwoy says: “More than [anything], Love and Harmony is more of me and Haile Roots. We shared the composition evenly and we plan to do another song together. [As of now], the vibe is right - the connection is good and we will keep it going. There is more room for improvement.”

Haile Roots is known to captivate audiences with his fiery and remarkable reggae sound and flair. His celebrated work includes collaborations with Luciano and respected Ethiopian musician Teddy Afro. His vibe on Love and Harmony is: “The message and the melody is [wonderful]. I feel like this is our song and inspiration because we wrote it. After Coke Studio Africa, I am planning to meet up with Stonebwoy and record more music.”

Stonebwoy’s stage name is derived from his birth name Livingstone. The Afropop, Dancehall and Reggae artiste touts music as his main drive.

He says: “If music was a genre or a human being - it would be my inspiration. I listen widely and I picked up reggae and dancehall essentially from afro beats. The genre is a high level of roots and originally comes from Ghana. [From the beginning] I could relate to afro beats from the high life I am used to, and I relate to Haile Roots because my music has a strong reggae background.”
