Efya on her Coke Studio Africa Debut

Ghanaian singer Efya is one of Africa’s most talented power vocalists. On Coke Studio Africa season 4, she has been paired with Ugandan singer - and BET Award winner - Eddy Kenzo. The two will be produced by Kenya’s Madtraxx.

Efya says: “Madtraxx has made some fun beats,” and reveals: “Expect for my music to sound different. On our collaborations I want to take something that will allow my music to enter the (local) market.”

On her collaboration with Eddy Kenzo, she says: “It’s my first time to meet Eddy Kenzo - he’s exciting and a great guy to work with! I already knew him before this thanks to his song Sitya Loss that had millions of views on YouTube. From this season I want to take a structure to be able to fuse sounds, so that when audiences hear a Ghanaian artiste singing they don’t feel like it’s too foreign but they can easily adapt to the sound.”

The Ghanaian firebrand speaks on her soulful music direction on Coke Studio Africa: “In whatever song I put out, there is going to be a base of soul, which is why I have an old soul. My voice is so full. Even if it’s reggae I always add the soul and high life. On the show, I also get to learn from other artists how music fusion works and that is magic. I want to maintain that while working with Eddy Kenzo and still add the soul.”

Efya joins Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale and EL as Ghana’s first lot of artistes to feature on Coke Studio Africa.

“It’s always special to be first. I will make the best of this opportunity and represent my country so that my music isn’t only heard – it’s not forgotten. I am excited to be singing Luganda on the show this year!”

And among the things Efya said she can’t live without – these include a phone, blue tooth track pad, keyboard and her MacBook.
