Sketchy Bongo is one of the most prominent music producers and DJs in South Africa at the moment. Real name Yuvir Pillay, he has several hits on high rotation on South African and international TV and radio stations. Having recently signed on to mega dance label, Ultra Music in New York, he has gained substantial international exposure from his single Let You Know featuring Coke Studio Africa 2017 artist Shekhinah. He recently released his debut album "Unmasked" which has being doing exceptionally well on the digital charts. The musician makes his debut on Coke Studio Africa this year producing the pairing of AKA (South Africa) and Olamide (Nigeria), among others.

Sketchy Bongo is shaping what South African music will sound like in the next decades, and this is evident in the choice of artists he has been working with. They include Aewon Wolf, Locnville, Shekhinah, Kyle Deutch, Danny K, Nasty C, Tresor, Jimmy Nevis and AKA. He is also the only producer in South Africa to have his own feature on MTV Base, which had all hits on the playlist produced by him.

As part of the Durban movement, the Wolf Pack, Sketchy is among a creative collective consisting of local singers, rappers, kwaito artistes, video directors and even graphic designers that are putting the city and province on the map. The Wolf Pack is also ushering in the era of releasing albums digitally. Many of the songs released are available only on online platforms like iTunes.

The 27-year-old started producing beats and making Hip-Hop music with long-time friend Arnold “Aewon Wolf” Phillips and Slikour of Skwatta Kamp from the age of 13. He then started playing his own songs in Durban clubs in 2012, after event organizer and club DJ George Kretsos offered him a spot on his line-up.

Sketchy got his name from wearing a mask. Even though he is a major producer on the music scene, Sketchy has never wanted to take all the credit or expose himself to fame, and hence the mask keeps him away from the spotlight.
