Talented Ethiopian singer, songwriter and performer Sami Dan is renowned for his hit song “Tefa Yemiyelen”. His music defines new school reggae and his debut 13-track reggae album “Kerase Gar Negeger” is a masterpiece that displays his flair as a songwriter while fusing catchy melodies and authentic beats. 2017 heralds his first appearance on Coke Studio Africa, where he is paired with Laura Beg from Mauritius.

Prior to starting his own band Zewd Acoustic in 2014, Sami was part of the Hasset Acoustic Band for three years and also performed with the Sydney Solomon Imperial Majestic Band for a year. With Zewd Acoustic, he released a 4-song promotional CD that featured hit singles: “Anchi Yene” and “Shegitu” that received massive airplay. The band plays at the city’s major festivals and events as well as booked residency gigs at top hotels and clubs.

Two years later, Sami struck gold with his debut album that has won a number of awards since its release. At the Leza Listener’s Choice Awards, he won Best Single of the Year, Best Music Video of the Year, Best New Artist and Best Album - no mean feat. The album was also crowned the Best Album at the Addis Music Listener’s Choice Awards. He was recognized by Hulu Addis Radio Program (Bisrat FM) as the Best New Artist.

At the 2017 edition of Sauti za Busara in Stonetown, Zanzibar - one of Africa’s most unique festivals displaying live authentic music - Sami Dan was the only Ethiopian artiste selected to perform at the fiesta. His music is quite similar to the subject of his debut album, which touches on love, unity, spirituality and happiness.

Sami Dan is a 2001 graduate of the Addis Ababa University in Construction Technology & Management G.C and an engineer by profession - but music has been his passion for as long as he can remember. His music career began while still in High School playing for Eldan Band for five years. Upon joining college, he quit the band to focus on school but kept nurturing his creative side while writing songs.
