Ugandan singer Rema Namakula is known for her captivating and unique sound. The success of her debut single Oli Wange, released in 2013, was her main introduction into the Ugandan music industry. Following its success, she gained loyal fans while receiving recognition in Uganda’s vibrant music industry. In 2016 she won an award at the BBA Awards for Best Female Artist. Rema makes her debut on Coke Studio Africa season 4, this year paired with returning music legend from Nigeria; 2Baba (2Face Idibia).


Before going solo in 2013, Rema was a background vocalist in the Gagamel Crew for fellow Ugandan hitmaker Bebe Cool. Since going solo, Rema has concentrated on building her own repertoire through producing quality songs. She is today a two-time winner for the Best Female Artist at Uganda’s prominent HiPipo Awards for the years 2013 and 2014. In 2015, she was declared overall winner for the MTN Caller Tunes’ Online Award and as Best Female Artiste of the year at the Zina Awards.


Following the success of her first single Oli Wange, Rema has gone on to release more singles including Katonotono, Kukaliba, Lean on Me, Sitaki, Linda and Kirungi, which have cemented her musical presence in Uganda, and beyond.


Born in Kampala, Uganda, Rema is the last born in her family. She was born Rema Namakula and settled on her real name to be her stage identity. Her big break was meeting Bebe Cool and starting a career in music as his backup vocalist. She now concentrates on showcasing more Ugandan music to the world.
