Joh Makini is a thirty four year old Tanzanian rapper and CEO of Weusi Company (a record company) He is regarded as the most prolific and respected Hip-Hop artist, songwriter and composer in Tanzania. Joh Makini is known for his use of metaphors and great free styling abilities, word play and flow. Joh Makini has a highly reputable stage presence that moves masses due to his MCing skills. The Tanzanian finest has shared the stage with East Africa’s finest like Nonini, Chameleon, Psquare, Dbanj, Diamond, Juliana, Wyre and Prezzo. He has also shared the stage with international acts such as Jay Z, Ja Rule, 50 Cent, Fat Joe, Eve, Busta Rhymes, Sean Kingston, Fabulous and Kat Deluna. His songs “Karibu Tena”, ”Stimu Zimelipiwa”, “Bei Ya Makaa”, “Njee Ya Box” and “Gere” have received massive airplays in all radio and television stations in East Africa.

Joh Makini started out doing music as a hobby releasing his first single in 2002 but it was never a hit. It was not until 2006 that he started doing music professionally. He gets to write most of his songs, but at times gets advice from his group Weusi. His life, surrounding and the zeal to create awareness and educate others is what inspires Joh Makini when writing his lyrics. Joh Makini’s first stage name was “Rapture”, but after growing up and deciding on the style of music he wants to stick to he changed his stage name to “Joh Makini”. His music has changed over the years trying to also cope with times.
